In short: A good snus online shop in Switzerland checks age effectively (according to the Federal Office of Public Health, simply clicking "I am 18" is not enough), shows a complete imprint, states the nicotine strength per pouch, shows prices and shipping costs before checkout and ships from Switzerland. Be wary of prepayment as the only payment method, a missing imprint and prices far below the market.

This checklist shows how to recognise a trustworthy shop, what snus realistically costs and which questions to settle before your first order. As a shop we are a party to the matter, so we tell you openly where we stand and name our sources.

Age checks: what applies, and what do shops really do?

Since 1 October 2024, tobacco products and e-cigarettes may only be sold to people aged 18 or over throughout Switzerland. This also applies online. The Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) told SRF that a simple click on "I confirm that I am 18 years old" is not enough. An SRF test of ten Swiss online shops in June 2025 showed, however, that only three used a reliable age check, such as an ID at registration. The federal technical requirements for online age checks are still missing; they are yet to be defined.

For you this means: ask how a shop checks age. A shop that reliably keeps minors out also protects you as a buyer. How we handle it is described below; in detail we cover it in our article on age verification for online purchases.

How to spot untrustworthy snus shops

  • Imprint missing or incomplete. Without a company address you do not know who your contract partner is.
  • Prepayment only. A shop that accepts only advance bank transfer leaves you with the whole fraud risk.
  • Bait prices. If prices are far below anything Swiss shops charge, be careful.
  • No trace outside its own site. Search the shop name plus "reviews". Fake shops often stand out this way.
  • Shipping from abroad. This means longer delivery times and possible customs and VAT costs on arrival.

Reading nicotine strength correctly: mg per pouch or mg per gram?

Many shops and manufacturers state strength in mg per gram, others in mg per pouch. The figures are not directly comparable: a large pouch weighs around 0.8 to 1 g, a mini pouch only about 0.3 to 0.5 g. Always convert to mg per pouch before comparing brands.

What does snus realistically cost in Switzerland?

The price per tin depends on brand, strength and quantity. At Swiss online shops, common pouches in October 2026 are roughly between CHF 4 and CHF 10 per tin: budget brands at the lower end, well-known brands such as VELO or ZYN and extra strong varieties in the middle to upper range. Larger quantities (rolls, big packs, 500 g boxes) and volume discounts reduce the price per pouch considerably.

Questions to ask before your first order

  1. How does the shop check age, and is that enough?
  2. Who owns the shop? Is there a company name and a Swiss address?
  3. Is the nicotine strength per pouch stated for every product?
  4. What are the total shipping costs, and where is it shipped from?
  5. Which payment methods are offered, and is prepayment the only one?
  6. What do independent reviews say, including the bad ones?
  7. Is there support you can reach if something goes wrong?

Where Snustrend stands

We are a Swiss online shop for snus, nicotine pouches, vapes and snuff. Measured against the checklist above:

  • Range: over 430 varieties from more than 50 brands, including VELO, ZYN, Siberia, Pablo and Cuba.
  • Product information: strengths in mg per pouch and our own strength chart to compare all brands.
  • Shipping: from Switzerland, Economy from CHF 4.90 for orders from CHF 60 (CHF 8.90 below that), Priority from CHF 8.90. You see the costs before paying.
  • Everything in one place: snus, vapes and snuff in one order, with a loyalty programme (TrendCoins).
  • Age verification: We use the age-check system One Guard. It estimates by face scan whether you are at least 18. If the result is uncertain, it additionally asks for an ID. There is currently no uniform legal obligation for such a check in Switzerland. We would welcome an obligation for everyone and will implement it as soon as it applies.
